what to expect
LFR summer staff is a tight knit community that is centered around Bible teaching, worshipping together, prayer, and serving in a common mission (a lot like Acts 2:42). That common mission is to share the Gospel with roughly 2000 campers each summer, to encourage the church leaders who serve them, and build relationships with one another. With this focus, our staff community quickly becomes a group of people joined together on mission, focused on Jesus, led by the Holy Spirit, and worshipping God as a family.
Our year-round staff are committed to investing in our summer staff and modeling with them the one-on-one relational ministry that makes LFR so special. A summer working at Lake Forest Ranch can be an experience in Christian community that we pray will change your life forever as you serve in the Church long after you’ve left LFR.
Life at summer camp can be crazy! If you serve here, you’ll likely be living in a cabin with campers aging from 7-17. You’ll share a bathroom and some private space with another summer staff member, but you’ll be surrounded by energetic campers almost every minute of the day! The days will be long but rewarding. The work will be hard but worth it. We’ll laugh a lot and celebrate the goodness of God every day in staff meetings, and during special Bible study gatherings just for staff. At times, you’ll feel cut off from the rest of the world as you step away from technology, move out to the middle of nowhere, and give your attention and energy to serving kids and teenagers for the glory of Christ...

Staff Roles

Counselors are godly young men and women who have a heart for sharing and living the Gospel. Year after year these are some of the finest and most gifted young adults that you’ll meet anywhere. An LFR distinctive is that each camper receives focused one-on-one ministry from his/her camp counselor. Because we want to provide a relational camp experience for each camper, we are very selective in choosing our counselors.
Counselors must have at least finished their first year of college or equivalent (at least age 19) and expect to give all of themselves to bringing the Kingdom to earth as it is in heaven.

“Tribe” includes our 7 & 8 year old campers who have an alternate schedule to better serve their needs. Our Tribe Leaders provide additional support to the counselors with Tribe campers throughout each of the Kid’s Camps. Tribe Leaders facilitate age appropriate interactive Bible studies, Teepee pow wows, group activities, fun games, special snacks, water activities, and all the regular camp fun.
Tribe Leaders must be at least age 17 and have a love for leading young children.

Workstaff are selected to serve Christ behind-the-scenes at LFR in the summer and to be mentored by veteran staff. A normal day on workstaff is usually filled with serving meals, working recreation, and keeping the camp buildings and grounds clean. Through the years we have watched young campers come alive in their walk with Christ, being on Workstaff is an opportunity to take them even deeper in their relationship with Him through servanthood and mentoring.
Workstaff must be at least age 17 and have a willingness to work hard and serve others over self.

Maybe leading a group of kids isn’t your thing or you’ve never cleaned anything in your whole life, support staff might be the right fit for you. They help us fill the gaps in unique positions throughout the summer. Each support staff person is vital to the flourishing of the summer camp program.
Support Staff roles include: worship leader, Tribe Chief, cook, lifeguard, photographer, nanny, administrative assistant, and grounds keeper.
Support Staff are usually at least 18 years old.
